Taylor Swift is once again using her enormous platform to speak up against President Donald Trump and is sounding a stronger note that many Democratic leaders. On Saturday, Swift took to Twitter to talk about what has rapidly become the top political issue around the country: the United States Postal Service. Swift is siding with Democrats who say the Trump administration has launched an all-out assault on the Postal Service before an election in which more people than ever are expected to vote by mail.
“Trump’s calculated dismantling of USPS proves one thing clearly: He is WELL AWARE that we do not want him as our president,” Swift wrote on Twitter. “He’s chosen to blatantly cheat and put millions of Americans’ lives at risk in an effort to hold on to power.” The pop star then went on to accuse Trump of “ineffective leadership” that made the coronavirus crisis worse and now he wants to take “advantage of it to subvert and destroy our right to vote and vote safely.” Swift ends with a piece of advice to her fans: “Vote early.”
Swift was famously silent on political issues
until 2018, when she announced she was voting for Tennessee’s Democratic Senate candidate. “In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,” Swift wrote in the now-famous Instagram
post. Since then, the singer-songwriter has been increasingly vocal about her anti-Trump stance and in May responded strongly to Trump’s tweet in which he suggested looters should be shot. “We will vote you out in November,” Swift wrote. In August of last year, Swift
told the Guardian: “I just wanna do everything I can for 2020. I wanna figure out exactly how I can help, what are the most effective ways to help.”
